The recognition of sports as a form a recreation has resulted towards the flourish of sports facilities worldwide. Sports facilities give you a comfortable and safe area for people to participate in several types of sports. Before, most of these facilities catered only to wedding party activity like basketball for basketball courts, tennis for tennis courts and so forth. Today, engineering advancement has generated the Multi Use Game Area or MUGA which is quickly becoming popular.

What is MUGA? You may have heard the term used before. Multi Use Game Area, also referred to as MUGA is a unique court system that enables several types of sports to become took part in one region. This really is thanks to synthetic surfacing. The term multi says all this. Unlike the conventional courts, MUGAs can host numerous forms of play from basketball to football. You may ask how you could do this. The number of sports activities that the MUGA can serve depends upon its structure and style. Before it is constructed, there are particular factors that are considered. This includes base design, kerb perimeter, synthetic surface, and perimeter. All of these determine the over-all convenience of the sport area.

To really make the area more conducive to sports and safe for players and spectators alike, MUGA fencing is done. What?s this? This is a kind of fencing which is engineered for varied forms of sports. Plenty of fencing companies are experts in this sort of fencing. Mesh panel is a popular decision for a muga fences because of its durability, strength, and look. A fence is customized based on the kind of games how the area allows. A MUGA fence offer several features like having the capacity to keep the balls from the facility; multiple entrance and exits for faster and easier access; places that people can safely see the games , and anti-rattle fixings. Additional accessories include basketball hoops, cycle shelters, and play areas.

What?s the distinction between Sports Fencing and MUGA fencing? The two have been similar because both types cater to sports. A automated gates and MUGA fence aim to give you a safe and peaceful atmosphere, simultaneously making activities more fulfilling either way players and viewers. However, a MUGA fence is in fact more diverse because it?s made to handle various types of sports, unlike sports fencing that is suitable for merely one kind of play.

Leaked Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Training Manual Reveal Some of Its Specs

A couple of pages of what it seems to be the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 training manual have hit the web courtesy of the German publication SIM Only Radar. The aforementioned publication has received the photos from an anonymous tipster, who claims that they are the real deal and that they belong to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) variant.

The prints you can see in the gallery below also contain some of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 specifications, which come to confirm the rumors that hit the web over the past couple of months. It seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will boast a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display (contrary to the rumors saying it will be fitted with a 5.9-inch unit) and 13 megapixel camera with Xenon flash.

The same leaked training manual revealed that there will be two Samsung Galaxy Note 3 variants, one powered by Sammy?s proprietary Exynos 5 Octa chipset (with four Cortex A15 cores probably clocked at 1.8 GHz and four 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 cores) and one sporting a Snapdragon 800 SoC with quad-core Krait 400 CPU at 2.3 GHz.

If the leaked Galaxy Note 3 sketches are the real deal, then the next-gen Samsung phablet will come with a dedicated camera button, which will be warmly welcomed by most of the customers. As about the resolution of the Galaxy Note 3 display, even though the training manual doesn?t mention anything about it, we are sure that it will be a full HD panel, given the current trend of the smartphone market.

Some rumors say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will feature advanced functions for the camera, like optical image stabilization. Regarding the design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, word has it that the phablet will continue the design language introduced earlier this year by the Samsung Galaxy S4 flagship.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is expected to debut during a special Unpacked event on September 4th, on the same day the IFA Berlin 2013 event will open its gates for the press.

For the time being there?s no confirmation of the leaked Galaxy Note 3 details, therefore we are advising you to take them with a pinch of salt.

Afghan women suffer setback as parliament lowers quota for female lawmakers

An official helps an Afghan woman fill her application for a voter registration card in Herat on May 26.

By Atia Abawi, Correspondent, NBC News

KABUL, Afghanistan -- Afghanistan?s parliament has passed a law lowering the proportion of provincial council seats reserved for women.

The Wolesi Jirga, or lower house of parliament, this week approved a revised electoral law that included the reduction of the guaranteed proportion of the 420 provincial council seats allotted to females from 25 percent down to 20 percent.

The purpose of guaranteeing some seats for women was to ensure female representation in the male-dominated society where women and girls are still often treated as second-class citizens.

Many worry this is yet another step in restricting women?s rights in a country that has made many strides in this area during the last decade. After the U.S.-led military invasion that toppled the austere Taliban regime 12 years ago, women and girls were given the opportunity to rejoin society. They were given the allocated seats in the country?s legislature to help with the process of integration.

They were also given the right to work outside the home and millions of girls went back to school ? privileges they did not have under the Taliban.

More than a decade after the beginning of the war, Afghanistan faces external pressure to reform as well as ongoing internal conflicts.

But amid reports of possible negotiations with the Taliban and attempts to bring them back into the political fold, the new law makes it clear it isn?t just the Taliban that women need to worry about ? it?s their own government.

Human Rights Watch said the decision ??one of many similar recent moves by various government bodies ??indicated ?a broad-based attack on women?s rights.?

?It?s perverse that Afghanistan?s parliament is devoting its time and energies to attacking women?s hard-fought legal protections,? said Brad Adams, the Asia director for HRW. ?Afghanistan?s foreign donors should be loud and clear that they won?t stand by while Afghan women?s hard-won rights are swept away.?

Female parliamentarian Shukria Barakzai said that the fact that women kept as many seats as they did was an achievement.

?In the last three years, I should say that [Afghan] women have been lost from the attention of international community and civil society. They are not getting as much support as they had in the past,? she said. ?It?s not a good step that the seats were reduced, but on the other hand this 20 percent is still a big deal for us, we risked even losing the 20 percent.?

The latest decision comes after conservatives in the upper house of parliament, Mishrano Jirga, surreptitiously removed a law that stipulated there should be at least 25 percent female representation in the provincial council earlier this year. Female politicians discovered what had happened and fought to have the decision recalled.?

Barakzai said women should not take the decrease in seats allocated to them sitting down, and should campaign harder to win the seats independently.

?They should do the work themselves and not wait for others to give it to them,? she added. ?It is their job and their duty.?

Some Afghans agreed with the new law and applauded the decision.

Muhammad Moeen Marastial, a former member of parliament, called the reduction ?reasonable? and said that it fairly represented the country?s status quo in regards to gender equality.

?It is dependent on our society?s conditions, and for now it is hard for women to work and represent themselves. So because of the current situation the step taken by the parliament is a right decision.? Marastial said. ?Also, if you look at the parliaments around the world, you will be able to find they are only 20 to 30 percent made up of women.?

But Marastial added that he believes parliament should do more in the future to give women more opportunities and create more equality between men and women.

Kabul mechanic Mohammad Daoud said he is fine with the lessening of female representation and added that they should reduce male representation as well.

?They should end the parliament and provincial councils all together,? the 42-year-old said. ?What have they done for our society? They are useless and just an extra expense for our government.?

New model to improve vehicle-to-vehicle communication for 'intelligent transportation'

[unable to retrieve full-text content]Imagine a transportation system where vehicles communicate directly with each other in real time, giving drivers warnings about traffic delays, allowing a single driver to control multiple vehicles or routing vehicles around hazardous road conditions. Those are all aspects of the "intelligent transportation" concept. And researchers have developed a model to improve the clarity of the vehicle-to-vehicle transmissions needed to make that concept a reality.

Muku Labs' Shuttr Is A Tiny Bluetooth Remote Shutter Release For Smartphone Cameras

Muku Labs ShuttrSmartphone selfies come in a very limited variety of flavors: the arms-length shots that make your head look distended and blurry mirror pics. There are several self-timer apps out there, but it's still difficult to snap natural-looking self-portraits or spontaneous group photos, especially if you are also trying to wrangle small children and pets. Now on Kickstarter, Shuttr is a tiny Bluetooth remote shutter release for iOS and Android devices created by Hong Kong-based Muku Labs to give smartphone photographers more control. It's already met its funding goal, but the remote control, which starts shipping in fall, is still available for pledges starting from $29.

I Bet I Can Create A 25 Million-Year-Old False Alarm, Says Biologist E.O. Wilson

The world's most famous ant-scholar likes to daydream. "So much good science ? and perhaps all of great science," he writes in his new book "has its roots in fantasy."

Here's his.

After seeing Jurassic Park, where scientists clone dinosaurs from the blood of ancient dino-biting mosquitoes,Wilson thought: Hmmm, that's a little far-fetched, but I bet I can do a version that might be "really and truly possible."

He was having lunch with the author of the film, Michael Crichton, (who also wrote The Andromeda Strain and TV's ER) when he outlined his plan. I can imagine Crichton leaning in, itchy with expectation. Nobody knows ants like Wilson. And Wilson likes to live dangerously (especially in his head).

Here's Wilson's idea.

For years, he'd worked at Harvard's Museum of Comparative Zoology, which houses one of the greatest ant collections in the world. In his younger days, he'd done field work in the Dominican Republic, where he found a bunch of ants in amber. He brought his discoveries back to Cambridge and learned they were 25 million years old.

Twenty-five million years doesn't get us back to the age of the dinosaurs, (that's 100 million years ago) but still, it's a big jump, and when Wilson cracked open those glistening amber droplets, he found a bunch of ancient little lady ants, new to science, that he called Azteca alpha.

? What if I could create a 25 million-year-old false alarm?

He studied them, and found they most closely resembled a modern species found in Peru, southern Brazil, and perhaps Central America, called Azteca muelleri. This modern ant, Wilson told Crichton, appears "to be a direct evolutionary descendent or otherwise close relative of Azteca alpha," which means these modern ants may have a lot of behaviors in common with their great, great, great etc. grandmas.

And so ... ? (I imagine Crichton thinking ... )

Well, (I imagine Wilson answering), what if I could create a 25 million-year-old false alarm?

What?

These modern ants are well known for their alarm signals when their nests are invaded. As soon as an attack begins Azteca muelleri soldiers give off a shout (kind of like Paul Revere's "The British are coming! The British are coming!") ? which they do in antspeak, that is, with specific chemical smells. Their warning, Ed said, relies on "large quantities of pheromones, acrid-smelling terpenoids, which they release into the air to alarm nestmates."

Ed's Naughty Idea

Wilson's naughty idea assumed that the ancient ants stored the same pheromone in their bodies way back then. And he told Michael Crichton it might be possible to break into some of those still preserved amber droplets, surgically invade the ancient ant inside and "extract remnants of the [alarm] pheromone from Azteca alpha remains ... "

And then ... ?

Then he would take the extract to, say, southern Brazil, inject the smell into a modern nest and see if it set off the alarm, sending modern ants scurrying frantically to defend their nest ... the delicious part being, not only would it be amazing if the alarm still worked, but, as he told Crichton, "I could deliver a message from one ant colony to another across a span of 25 million years."

Cool idea, no?

Crichton wanted Wilson to do it. But Wilson said he didn't have the time, not then, but he might try later. Years passed. Crichton died in 2008. Wilson still hasn't found the time.

In his new book he says this experiment has a bit "too much of the circus trick and too little of real science" to be worth taking the trouble, but this is the same guy who, in the 1950s, having discovered the ant gland that produces odor trails, dabbed his finger with invisible ant attractant and wrote his name ? in longhand ? on his lab desk and then gleefully watched as thousands of ants rushed across his desk to spell "Ed Wilson" with their bodies.

Ed Wilson knows how to get silly. "Daydream a lot," he advises young scientists in his book. "Make it a practice to indulge in fantasy." So it'll happen. One day, one of his army of former students will say, "Oh, Ed, I'm going to Brazil," and Ed will close his eyes, and start smiling ...

For my favorite example of E.O. Wilson being bad, check out the time he dabbed a live ant with an "I'm dead" smell. The ant had a very peculiar day. We talked about it on All Things Considered in 2009. Wilson's new book is called Letters to a Young Scientist. It's a very personal (and therefore rich with autobiographical sketches from his boy scouting days, research trips, on-campus intrigues) aimed at any young college student thinking about a career in science.

Kerry to meet Arab League officials on Israeli-Palestinian peace

By Arshad Mohammed

AMMAN (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is due to meet on Wednesday with officials from Arab nations that he regards as essential to his push to get Israelis and Palestinians to resume peace talks.

On his sixth visit to the region since taking office, Kerry and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas spoke for five hours in Amman on Tuesday night over an Iftar dinner, the evening meal with which Muslims break their daily fast during Ramadan.

The two discussed Israeli-Palestinian peace, bolstering the Palestinian economy and the recent upheaval in the Middle East, a senior State Department official said without giving details, in keeping with Kerry's desire to keep his consultations secret.

Kerry hopes to revive Israeli-Palestinian negotiations that broke down in 2010 in a dispute over Israeli settlement building in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians want for an independent state.

After a round of shuttle diplomacy between Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the end of June, Kerry said that "with a little more work, the start of final status negotiations could be within reach".

However, Israeli officials said they were unaware of any plans by Kerry to visit Israel on his latest trip, and diplomats and Middle East analysts are skeptical that the Israelis and Palestinians will resume peace talks soon.

Moreover, some regard the issue as less pressing than Syria's civil war, the Egyptian army's overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi and Iran's nuclear program.

On Wednesday, Kerry is due to meet officials from countries that supported a 2002 Arab League proposal that offered full Arab recognition of Israel if it gave up land seized in a 1967 war and accepted a "just solution" for Palestinian refugees.

FREEZE DEMANDED

Abbas has said that, for new talks to be held, Netanyahu must freeze the settlements and recognize the West Bank's boundary before its capture by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war as the basis for the future Palestine's border.

Israel, seeking to keep major settlement blocs under any peace accord and citing security concerns, balks at those terms.

Kerry has sought to ensure that any new peace process would have the backing of the Arab League states, which, if they were to offer Israel a comprehensive peace, could provide a strong incentive for Israeli compromises.

U.S. officials declined to confirm which countries would be represented at Wednesday's meeting but said they were likely to include Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

When Kerry met the group on April 29, they made a concession to Israel by saying Israel and the Palestinians could swap land rather than conform exactly to their 1967 borders.

Previously, the group had insisted on a return to the 1967 lines and had not endorsed land swaps, although it has long been assumed that these would be part of any peace agreement.

Yet the Arab League plan, rejected by Israel when it was proposed at a Beirut summit in 2002, has major obstacles to overcome.

Israel objects not only to a return to 1967 borders but also to the inclusion of Arab East Jerusalem in a Palestinian state and the right of return of Palestinian refugees to what is now Israel.

'Brown ocean' can fuel inland tropical cyclones

[unable to retrieve full-text content]In the summer of 2007, Tropical Storm Erin stumped meteorologists. Most tropical cyclones dissipate after making landfall, weakened by everything from friction and wind shear to loss of the ocean as a source of heat energy. Not Erin. The storm intensified as it tracked through Texas. Erin is an example of a newly defined type of inland tropical cyclone that maintains or increases strength after landfall. Storms in the newly defined category derive their energy from the evaporation of abundant soil moisture -- a phenomenon that experts call the "brown ocean."

One step forward, two steps back for Canada's parks: CPAWS' 2013 ...

Ottawa ? In the run-up to Canada?s Parks Day on the 3rd Saturday in July, the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is releasing its 5th annual report on how Canada?s parks are faring. The report highlights some good news in the past year on creating new parks, including Tursujuq in Quebec announced in December ? which is now Canada?s largest provincial park.

But CPAWS also warns that problematic trends continue, including inappropriate industrial and commercial developments, cutbacks to national parks and weakening commitments in some areas to expanding parklands. CPAWS has also identified opportunities across Canada where governments could take action to shift these trends in a more positive direction over the next year.

?One of our biggest concerns this year is a proposal to drill and ?frack? for oil within metres of Gros Morne National Park. If this proposal is approved, it will present a serious risk to park ecosystems. It will also jeopardize a thriving local tourism economy, and could put Gros Morne?s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site at risk,? says CPAWS Parks Program Director Alison Woodley.

?We?re also starting to feel the impact of last year?s dramatic budget cuts on our national parks. Visitor seasons are now shorter in many parks. Important science and ecological restoration projects such as plans to reintroduce caribou and bison into Banff National Park are on hold. At the same time, inappropriate developments we warned about last year are now underway in our national parks, including plans for heavy summer use of sensitive grizzly habitat on Banff?s Mount Norquay and building the Glacier Discovery Walk in Jasper National Park,? adds Woodley.

CPAWS is also concerned that some provinces and territories are moving away from promises to create new parks and protected areas. ?For example, the Yukon Territory has completely abandoned recommendations by a First Nations and territorial government-appointed planning commission to protect the Peel River watershed ? one of the most spectacular wild watersheds left in the world ? and is now proposing to open most of it up to industrial development,? says Woodley.

?And in New Brunswick, where only 3% of land is protected, the province is now long overdue in meeting a commitment it made last year to increase that percentage to 4.5% ? not a spectacular leap forward but better than nothing ? and now we fear even that minimal progress could be in jeopardy,? says Woodley.

Other bright spots in CPAWS? report include major progress by Nova Scotia towards expanding its parks and protected areas system by 250,000 hectares, which would vault that province into second place nationally in protecting its lands and freshwater.? And for the first time in decades, Saskatchewan announced the creation of a new provincial park earlier this year and committed to create more provincial parks, noting them as a cornerstone of the tourism industry. Manitoba also announced a new strategy this year to strengthen protection of many of its existing parks and create or expand up to 10 parks.

CPAWS has also identified opportunities for governments to take positive action on parks over the next year, which would help set a more positive direction for protecting Canada?s wilderness.

?Canada has some great opportunities to make progress on parks over the next few years. These include NWT?s East Arm of Great Slave Lake, Metro Toronto?s Rouge Valley, the headwaters of the South Nahanni River, BC?s highly threatened South Okanagan-Similkameen, southwest Alberta?s Castle Wilderness area and southwest Quebec?s Dumoine River area,? says Woodley.

?If governments move ahead, working with partners and building on the substantial work that has already been done, these are all places where we could see important new national and provincial parks and protected areas in the near future. That?s what we?ll be looking for in coming months,? says Woodley.

CPAWS has been issuing an annual report on the status of Canada?s parks since 2008. The first report lauded the rate of new parks creation by the federal government that year. Subsequent reports noted the slowdown in parks creation, the need to increase the number of marine protected areas, and the increase inappropriate developments. Last year?s report focused on the federal budget cuts to national parks and concerns about impacts on science and ecological monitoring capacity.

CPAWS is Canada?s voice for wilderness. Since 1963 we?ve led in creating over two-thirds of Canada?s protected areas. That amounts to about half a million square kilometres ? an area bigger than the entire Yukon Territory! Our vision is that Canada will protect at least half of our public land and water. As a national charity with 13 chapters, 65,000 supporters and hundreds of volunteers, CPAWS works collaboratively with governments, local communities, industry and indigenous peoples to protect our country?s amazing natural places.

Suicide bomb near Iraqi Sunni mosque kills 16: police and medics

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide bomb attack near a Sunni mosque in a southern district of the Iraqi capital killed at least 16 people on Saturday, police and medics said.

The blast took place in Doura, where people had gathered to pray after breaking their daily fast for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

"A bomb exploded while worshippers were leaving the mosque of Khalid Bin al-Waleed. Bodies were thrown back by the power of the explosion," said a policeman at the scene.

The violence is part of a sustained campaign of militant attacks since the start of the year that has prompted fears of wider conflict in a country where ethnic Kurds and Shi'ite and Sunni Muslims have yet to find a stable power-sharing compromise.

So far this month, some 334 people have been killed in militant attacks, according to the violence monitoring group Iraq Body Count.

Elsewhere on Saturday, four policemen were killed when a car packed with explosives driven by an apparent suicide bomber was fired on by police in the town of Abbara near Baquba, about 50 km (30 miles) northeast of Baghdad, and blew up, police and medics said.

The bomber's apparent target was a funeral tent nearby.

A fifth policeman was killed when a bomb exploded near his patrol in Madaen, a town 30 km (20 miles) southeast of Baghdad.

Iraq's delicate sectarian balance has come under growing strain from the conflict in neighboring Syria, where mainly Sunni rebels are fighting to overthrow a leader whose Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam.

Astonfield Earns India's First CRISIL 'A' Credit Rating for Solar Power Plant

Astonfield Renewables has announced that Credit Rating Information Services of India has given an A- credit rating on loan facilities for its 5 megawatt (MW) solar power plant in the state of Rajasthan.

Astonfield is the first company to receive an A class rating by CRISIL for a solar power plant in India. The "CRISIL A-/Stable" rating was given on long-term loan facilities. According to the agency, Astonfield has "a comfortable financial risk profile, marked by healthy debt protection metrics."

Furthermore, CRISIL noted Astonfield's debt service coverage ratio "is expected to be healthy."

The A- rating reflects the strong revenue visibility of Astonfield's 5 MW solar power plant, driven by its 25 year power purchase agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd. with "better realisation [sic] per unit and sound operational performance." The plant has been in operation since 2011.

"Astonfield is focused on developing renewable energy projects that earn a profitable return on investment, and this rating reinforces that core strength," said Ameet Shah, Co-Chairman of Astonfield Renewables.

"As a long-term owner of renewable power-generating assets in India, we are able to deliver healthy returns to our investors while maintaining a lower risk profile."

"Having established ourselves early on as a premier developer of renewable energy power plants in India's solar market, Astonfield is well positioned to capitalize on the latent emerging market demand for solar power in India, especially as the cost of diesel and other fossil fuel-based electricity generation rises," added Shah.

Kronos Aims to Bring Green Energy to All

VOL. 6 | NO. 29 | Saturday, July 13, 2013

?

By Michael Waddell

Updated 12:47PM

Kronos Energy Solutions is hard at work on a new hybrid charging system for electric cars, which it hopes to debut in the next six to nine months, and the company is also making plans for possible expansion of its headquarters in Cordova by early next year.

Kronos founder and owner John Bogensberger cites his six grandchildren as constant motivators for working to provide a better world for the future.

?When I formed Kronos in July 2009, I wanted to put my money where my mouth was and offer something better for my grandkids,? said Bogensberger, who started his company with the belief that sustainable, renewable energy should be available and affordable to everyone.

He wants to see people get more involved and more educated.

Kronos Energy Solutions develops the hybrid wind- and solar-powered T.R.I.P.S. (Totally Renewable Integrated Power System) tower for electric cars. (Kronos Energy Solutions)

?Everybody is talking green, but few people are walking green,? Bogensberger said. ?Everything we do is about being green. Even when I am making equipment purchases, I look for products that have zero environmental impact.?

Kronos products include residential, agricultural and marine-application wind turbines, satellite tractor-trailer fairings, and 70 percent of the sub-framing components for electric cars.

?We come up with new and innovative applications for old technologies and figure out how we can make them work better for people. We are not creating anything new,? said Bogensberger, who cites the fact that vertical axis wind turbine technology dates back to 600 B.C.

?We are a community-involved and faith-based organization that takes care of its employees,? said Bogensberger, a disabled U.S. veteran who served for 12 years in the U.S. Navy. ?We even recycle people. Everyone that works here has never worked in this industry before.?

As part of its community commitment, Kronos and its transitional department work to hire or help find work for other military veterans and the formerly unemployed and homeless.

Last fall, Bogensberger bought out his initial financial backer?s stake in the company, which now has 15 employees. By early next year, he hopes to be able to enlarge the company?s current 15,000-square foot space in Cordova by as much as 80,000 square feet.

Next up, Kronos is developing a hybrid charging system for electric cars that it plans to debut by the first quarter of next year.

?The program is called ALGA, and it?s part of a solar- and wind-powered hybrid charging station with zero carbon footprint,? said Bogensberger, who remains tight-lipped about specifics until closer to its release date.

T.R.I.P.S. (Totally Renewable Integrated Power System) stations or towers offer citizens the opportunity to join ALGA. Users are issued swipeable cards that are then used to access electric cars that can be driven anywhere within a metro area. When finished, the cars are simply dropped off and plugged back into the nearest charging station.

The flower-shaped T.R.I.P.S. stations are designed to be visually inert and blend in with surroundings, much like cell phone towers.

Locally Kronos hopes to deliver five T.R.I.P.S. poles to Agricenter International in the fall.

Overall the company does the majority of its business outside the U.S.

?It?s an uphill battle for renewables in the U.S. because we (as a community) think the petroleum bucket has no bottom,? said Bogensberger, who established strong international connections while handling global business for KONE, Wittur North America and Mid-America Door.

Bogensberger is currently working to establish a joint venture in the United Kingdom with power control company Lifteknic, and it just signed a manufacturing agreement in Tartistan in southern Russia for five of the T.R.I.P.S. solar- and wind-powered hybrid charging systems.

Bogensberger points out that many people are not aware that electric cars can have a larger carbon footprint than a standard ?smoke burning? car.

?And they are taxing an already taxed electrical grid,? he said. ?What will they do with the lithium ion cells afterwards??

Kronos is also in the process of trying to establish a foothold in the local semi-tractor trailer fairings industry.

?In the past two years, the number of all trucks on the road with fairings has grown from only 7.5 percent to between 40 percent and 45 percent, and the forecast is that in the next five years you won?t buy a trailer without them on it,? he said.

Fairings made by Kronos show 16 percent diesel fuel savings versus other brands, according to Bogensberger, and they boast a life expectancy of 84 months.

?Everyone who has tested them so far has said they are a superior product,? he said. ?We are offering a top quality product for about $1,000 under our lowest competitor.?

Zardari might leave Pak after completing term as president

Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari is expected to?leave Pakistan after completing his term as President on?September 8 due to security threats and fears about the?reopening of graft cases, according to a media report today.?Zardari?s friends have advised him to leave Pakistan?because of ?serious threats to his life?, the report on the?website of the Dawn newspaper quoted sources close to the?President as saying.

Another ?core reason? that could force Zardari to leave?the country is corruption cases pending against him, the?sources said. The Supreme Court has already heard a case about?reopening graft cases against Zardari in Switzerland.?Zardari?s legal aides are aware that presidential?immunity will not be available to him once he completes his?term in September.

Asif Ali Zardari. Agencies.

Asif Ali Zardari. Agencies.

The recent assassination in Karachi of Zardari?s chief?security officer Bilal Sheikh was a wake up call for the?President and his family. Once Zardari steps down as?President, extensive security will not be provided to him and?this could leave him and his family ?extremely vulnerable?,
the report said.

Earlier, Khalid Shahenshah, the chief security officer?of Zardari?s private residence in Karachi, was killed outside?his home in 2008. In 2011, Imran Jangi, another prominent?security officer of the Bhutto family, was gunned down in?Karachi.??Look at the President?s public appearances in the last
five years. Very rare. He prefers to live in his bunker. Now?after losing all presidential privileges he will not stay in?Pakistan,? said an unnamed Pakistan People?s Party leader.

Once Zardari steps down, he can no longer claim immunity?under the constitution in corruption cases.??The immunity under the Constitution is not for the?person but for the constitutional office that the President is?holding so he has immunity until he is in the office of the?president,? said Aitzaz Ahsan, a senior PPP leader and one of?Pakistan?s top lawyers.

The report said Zardari could move abroad for an?indefinite period. Zardari has already told the media he has?no plans to contest the next presidential polls.??And why should he? We are not even having a candidate?to run for the office of President,? presidential spokesman
Farhatullah Babar said. However, Babar did not respond to?queries regarding speculation about Zardari?s future plans.?The balance of power drastically shifted in favour of?the PML-N after the May 11 general election.

The PML-N now?enjoys an absolute majority in the Electoral College?comprising the two houses of parliament and the four?provincial assemblies.
A PPP insider said Zardari would be ?remote?controlling? the party from abroad. Meanwhile, he intends to?let his son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, take full control of the?PPP.

Washington's newest power couple: Max and Dave

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Welcome to the "Max and Dave Show," a campaign-style swing around the country featuring two of the most powerful members of Congress rallying support for their effort to overhaul the nation's tax laws - and, just maybe, change the way Washington works.

Sen. Max Baucus, a Democrat from Montana, and Rep. Dave Camp, a Republican from Michigan, are Washington's newest power couple - and an odd one during these politically deadlocked days in Washington.

They are lawmakers of different states, different parties and they're a decade in age apart. Yet, Camp and Baucus are developing a close friendship as they try to rally other lawmakers to their cause.

Their secret: Burgers, beer and a culture of working toward public policy answers that Americans seem to want in Washington - even when there's no solution in sight.

The pair has a common goal for an overhaul they believe is long overdue. And tax policy, to them, is exciting for all that is wrong and could be improved about it.

So beginning last week in Minnesota, Baucus and Camp began barnstorming the country, employing a similar burgers-and-beer strategy that's worked for them with colleagues in Washington.

"You have to have some basis to deal with each other to work together," Camp said in an interview. "What we're trying to do is create that foundation so that we are going to be able to work together on a very important bill that could have profound beneficial effects for the country."

At issue is a tax system that many inside and outside of Congress say is too complicated for individuals and too onerous for businesses.

Lawmakers in both political parties are convinced that simpler, easier-to-understand tax laws would spur economic activity. One problem is that many of the biggest tax breaks, including those for owning a home or contributing to retirement plans, are very popular.

10 Years Ago, Opportunity Rover Began a 90-Day Mission That Never Ended

10 Years Ago, Opportunity Rover Began a 90-Day Mission That Never Ended

When NASA's Opportunity rover launched on July 7th, 2003, expectations were modest. It would spend 90 Martian days exploring soil and rock samples and taking panoramas of the Red Planet; anything else would be a bonus. Nearly ten years after its initial shift was up, Opportunity is still going strong.

Not that it's been an easy journey. While Opportunity hasn't experienced the same hardship as its twin rover, Spirit (whose abandonment was immortalized in this brilliant XKCD comic), it's had its share of troubles. It spent a little over two months trapped in a sand dune before its operators were able to wriggle it free centimeter by centimeter, and it's overcome mechanical problems aplenty. Not to mention the overwhelming loneliness.

Despite all that, Opportunity has spent the last 3449 days driving nearly 23 miles around the surface of another world. Its discoveries include the first meteorite found outside of Earth, a temperature profile of the Martian atmosphere, and tiny, iron-rich spheres known as "blueberries" that hint at a time when Mars had water. In fact, Opportunity's most important discovery may have come just last month: A rock that proves that Martian water was once drinkable. Which in turn suggests strongly that life could once have thrived there.

Opportunity's quest is far from over; the little rover that could will keep taking its measurements until it breaks, or gets stuck, or NASA loses its funding once and for all. Godspeed, little buddy. We can't wait to see what the next 10 years holds for you?and for our understanding of the universe.

Can working jeopardize college financial aid?

(MoneyWatch) With the cost of college continuing to climb, millions of students are working to help pay the tab. What many families worry about, however, is how a student's income and assets will impact financial aid.

Here are six things that you need to know about whether a student's earnings and cash will jeopardize aid:

1. The federal financial aid formula factors in student income. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which any student seeking financial aid must fill out, does take a student's income and assets into consideration when determining aid eligibility.

2. Students can shield income. Although the FAFSA formula takes students' earnings into account, it allows them to shield a portion of their income so that it doesn't hurt their aid chances. For the upcoming 2013-14 school year, a student could have earned up to $6,130 in 2012 and it wouldn't have jeopardized aid. So as a practical issue, most students aren't going to have to worry about a job hurting them financially.

3. Work-study doesn't count. A work-study job on a campus isn't counted in financial aid calculations, so your child's job clearing dishes in the cafeteria or shelving books in the library won't jeopardize aid.

4. Students have no asset protection. The FAFSA does not permit students to shield their assets in savings and checking accounts from the financial aid formula. The federal aid methodology assesses student taxable assets at 20 percent. So if a teenager has $3,000 in the bank, for example, his eligibility for aid would drop by $600.

In contrast, the FAFSA allows parents to shelter some of their assets from financial aid considerations. How much a parent can shelter will hinge partly on the age of the oldest parent. For instance, a 50-year-old married parent can shelter up to $40,900.

5. Only one day counts for assets. The aid formula only cares about a child's assets on the day a family files the FAFSA. So if a family submits the FAFSA on Feb. 1, 2014, the child would report the value of his assets on that day. If he spent all his money on a used car on Jan.31, 2014, he would report $0 in assets.

6. Don't worry about retirement assets. Any money that students or parents have stashed away in retirement accounts won't matter. A teenager, for instance, could have $5,000 in a Roth IRA and it wouldn't hurt his/her chances for financial aid. In contrast, if a child had $5,000 in his checking account his eligibility for financial aid would drop by $1,000.

Provide Windows Phone Store Parent Approval for Kids Corner

From an app-developer's perspective, the main ways to monetize an app that runs on Windows Phone 8 are:

(1) Try and Buy
(2) In-App Purchases
(3) In-App Advertising

and the most common app marketing methods are:

(4) cross-promoting the dev's other apps via house-ads
(5) cross-promotion ad networks (e.g. AdDuplex)

With the exception of in-app advertising, each of these other monetization & marketing methods requires access to the Windows Phone Store to work properly. For example, even though a developer can display a house-ad for another one of his/her apps/games, the end-goal of showing the ad is for the user to tap and download/buy the app.

Normally these monetization & marketing strategies work fine, except for an app in Kids Corner, the Windows Phone Store is blocked, and the related user-workflows aren't possible. If the user can't access the Windows Phone Store, they can't Try or Buy and App or perform an In-App Purchase.

So, for an app in Kids Corner, Try & Buy, In-App Purchases, House-Ads, and even AdDuplex will not work properly as monetization and marketing strategies for a developer, because of the way Kids Corner is implemented. I understand that parents don't want their kids downloading apps, buying apps, or performing in-app purchases in Kids Corner without their permission - but what about *with* their permission/assistance? As a parent, that's not only reasonable, but convenient.

Consider the current workflow for downloading another app from an app's house-ad from Kids Corner:

(1) Kid taps an house-ad for a kids-game and gets an error message that they can't access the Windows Phone Store from Kids Corner.
(2) Kid either forgets about it (bad for the developer) or asks parent to download it
(3) Since parent can't approve download immediately, parent either says "no" or "not now" (bad for the developer), or exits Kids Corner by deactivating the phone.
(4) Parent reactivates the phone and enters passcode
(5) Parent goes to the Windows Store and enters search text to find the app and download it
(6) Then parent adds the app to Kids Corner

Six manual steps to download the app by a parent is not a very effective way for a house-ad to result in a download - it's just not going to happen. What's needed is a workflow that's much simpler, for example, by doing these things:

(1) Instead of the child not being able to access the WP Store, let the child be able to view apps on the WP Store with a child-appropriate rating (e.g. ESRB/PEGI rating). Accordingly, insure that app-ratings are available to 3rd-party ad-networks (e.g. AdDuplex) so that they can show ads for apps that kids will be able to see on the WP Store from Kids Corner.

(2) Allow a parent to enter a passcode to approve a trial download or app buy from the WP Store when launched from an app running in Kids Corner. (Since in-app purchases can be handled by non-Microsoft marketplaces, parental approval for them would likely need to be done at app/phone-level.)

(3) Provide Kids Corner phone settings for the above things, for example, to adjust app-ratings for Kids Corner viewable apps, approval password (if different from phone password), which things are parent-approvable, ...

Then the workflow for approving an app download would be:
(1) Kids taps house-ad, sees either
(A) This app is not able to be viewed from Kids Corner (because it doesn't have the appropriate app rating)
(B) The app details page on the WP Store and download buttons that require parent approval
(2) Parent enters password to approve app download/purchase, and app downloads and gets put in Kids Corner.

Simple, quick, & safe.

Providing this feature would also:
(A) Encourage developers to rate their apps & games
(B) Encourage ad-networks to show age-appropriate ads in Kids Corner
(C) Encourage developers to monetize with Try & Buy and in-app purchases for apps/games in Kids Corner & market with house-ads and cross-promotion networks (e.g. AdDuplex)

Trans-US solar plane finishes flight

The Solar Impulse plane has landed at New York's JFK airport, completing the final leg of a journey across the US on solar power alone.

The craft set off at 04:56 (08:56 GMT) on Saturday from Washington DC, and landed about 23:15 (03:45 GMT Sunday).

A Statue of Liberty fly-pass had to be cancelled, due to a 2.5metre (8ft) tear in the fabric of the left wing.

The Across America transcontinental bid began in San Francisco in early May - at a top speed of 70km/h (45mph).

It included stopovers in Phoenix, Arizona, Dallas, Texas, and St Louis, Missouri.

Neither the pilot nor the plane appeared to be in any danger because of the wing tear, officials said.

The Solar Impulse HB-SIA has the same wingspan as an Airbus A340 but at a weight of just 1.6 tonnes. By comparison, a fully laden A340 weighs about 370 tonnes.

The plane's wing and stabiliser are covered with nearly 12,000 solar cells, which drive its four propellers and charge the plane's 400kg of lithium-ion batteries for night-time flying.

The project has been billed as the first time that a solar-powered plane capable of flying day and night has attempted a journey across the US.

Andre Borschberg and his fellow pilot Bertrand Piccard have been alternating flying duties on the single-seat craft, with each leg of the trip designed to be under 24 hours in length.

The Solar Impulse HB-SIA

  • Wingspan - 63m (208ft)
  • Weight - 1,600kg (3,500lb)
  • Covered with 11,628 solar cells
  • Carries 400kg (900lb) of lithium-ion batteries
  • Maximum cruising altitude of 8,500m (28,000ft)

The prior leg was complicated by high winds and air traffic, so it was re-routed via Cincinnati at the last minute in order to stay under this limit.

"It was difficult to find all these 'weather windows' in the States - especially this last one," Mr Borschberg told BBC News prior to the flight.

"We had so much to organise to make it feasible - to integrate an experimental airplane like Solar Impulse in the busiest air traffic in the world, flying from Washington to Kennedy (airport) was extremely hard."

The Across America project is the last outing for the HB-SIA prototype craft.

Mr Piccard's and Mr Borschberg's intention is to finish a larger, two-seat plane, the HB-SIB, and fly it around the world in the spring of 2015.

That, Mr Borschberg said, would be "many times more complex than what we did here in the US".

"Working in one country with one language makes it of course easier than working internationally on different continents with all the logistics," he said.

"The unpredictable side of the project requires a lot of preparation."

The HB-SIA craft carried out the first inter-continental flight in 2012 and holds the world record for the longest manned solar-powered flight at 26 hours.

During the Across America bid, it set the record for the greatest distance of a manned solar-powered flight.

The project coincides with Piccard's and Borschberg's Clean Generation Initiative, an effort to encourage policy-makers and businesses to develop and adopt sustainable energy technologies.

At a welcoming event when the craft reached Washington DC, US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz said: "If you look at the Department of Energy's research programmes and technology visions, it involves many of the same kind of technology advances that these gentlemen have put together in an integrated system to accomplish something that would not have been thought of a few years ago.

"I believe in 10 years we're going to see the fruits of all these technologies changing the world."

Wall St Week Ahead: For stocks, there's no need to fear good news

By Ryan Vlastelica

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wall Street doesn't hate good news after all.

The June jobs figures were stronger than expected and caused a big selloff in the bond market. That further underscored expectations that the Federal Reserve will be chopping back its big bond-buying program sooner rather than later. This kind of occurrence in the past would have caused the stock market to freak out.

But the three major U.S. stock indexes climbed 1 percent on Friday, possibly pointing the way to more gains ahead.

The stock market has been in an odd spot for some time. Fear that the Federal Reserve would reduce its monthly bond-buying stimulus, designed to boost borrowing demand and help the U.S. economy, put investors in the position of rooting for just-OK data, the kind of figures that would keep the spigot open while still pointing to decent growth.

This report may have definitively changed that outlook. In June, a total of 195,000 jobs were created - much stronger than the forecast for 165,000. Government data also showed that the U.S. labor force has increased for three straight months now. The 10-year U.S. Treasury note's yield jumped to a two-year high above 2.70 percent from 1.60 percent in a matter of weeks.

In that time, equities have barely budged. Sure, the S&P 500 has drifted off its all-time closing high of 1,669.16 reached on May 21. It's still less than 3 percent from that mark despite the sharp rise in interest rates. Light volume in the stock market, however, means that the move up should be taken with a grain of salt. And it makes the next several days that much more important.

"Good news is good news, but there's so much uncertainty about how payrolls could impact markets," said David Kelly, who helps oversee $400 billion as chief global strategist for JPMorgan Funds in New York. "The market is schizophrenic about this."

Good news in the form of bullish economic data has recently been taken as a negative, causing market selloffs on the theory that it means the Federal Reserve will slow its stimulus. While comments from Fed officials helped relieve those concerns last week, June's strong payrolls data refocused investors' attention on the uncertainty.

The June nonfarm payrolls report raises the stakes for Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, who will be speaking on Wednesday before the National Bureau of Economic Research. Investors will closely scrutinize his comments for any hint about whether the jobs report could mean a faster end to the Fed's bond-buying stimulus program.

Some strategists said the bond market's selloff was in part because of thin volume exacerbating wild swings. Because of that, "it is unlikely that (yields) will rise any more than they already have," said Alec Young, global equity strategist at S&P Capital IQ in New York. "That means that if we get good news, it will come without an accompanying rise in rates, which is great for stocks."

Major signals for the market will come from areas with an outsized sensitivity to macroeconomic growth and higher interest rates. Those areas have done relatively well since May 21, when the Dow and the S&P 500 ended at record highs. Small-cap stocks jumped in their best week since mid-May, with the S&P 600 small-cap index <.spcy> closing on Friday at 568.15, an all-time high.

Financial stocks were the strongest sector on Friday, with the S&P financial sector index up 1.8 percent. Regional banks such as SunTrust Banks were among the S&P 500's biggest percentage gainers because those companies benefit from rising rates because it boosts their ability to profit from lending at higher rates while borrowing at lower rates.

IN SEARCH OF CLARITY

On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve will release the minutes from its June 18-19 meeting. Those minutes are likely to attract heightened attention from Wall Street since they are coming out on the same day that Bernanke speaks to the National Bureau of Economic Research.

The consensus on when the Fed will start cutting back its stimulus sits firmly in September of this year, with 11 of 16 primary dealers believing that, according to a Reuters poll, compared with seven of 17 in the June 19 Reuters poll.

On May 22, Bernanke said the quantitative easing program would be slowed if economic growth met the Fed's targets. Investors interpreted that as an indication of an early exit, sparking a steep slide in stocks and a surge in U.S. Treasury yields that prompted Goldman Sachs to close its recommendation that investors buy rate-sensitive names.

"The market is so inundated with voices from Fed officials - some far more reassuring than what we heard from Bernanke - that there's a lot of confusion," said Kristina Hooper, head of portfolio strategies at Allianz Global Investors in New York.

"Hearing him next week will settle things, especially on the heels of the jobs report," she said. "This is such a data-driven environment that to get a sense of how the Fed is viewing things is critical."

Stocks have stabilized after the recent decline. On Friday, the S&P 500 closed above its 50-day moving average for the first time since June 19.

For the week, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 1.5 percent, the S&P 500 gained 1.6 percent and the Nasdaq jumped 2.2 percent. Friday's close marked the end of the first trading week in the third quarter, although it was cut short by the market's closure for the Independence Day holiday.

For the year so far, the Dow is up 15.5 percent, while the S&P 500 is up 14.4 percent and the Nasdaq is up 15.2 percent.

The Fed probably will be the major driver for equities next week, although geopolitical tensions will also be in focus. The unrest in Egypt has generated concerns about oil supply, pushing crude prices to 14-month highs.

Fundamentals will return to the forefront as companies begin to release second-quarter results next week. Expectations call for S&P 500 earnings growth to rise 1.6 percent in the second quarter from a year ago, while quarterly revenue is forecast to increase 2.9 percent from a year ago, according to Thomson Reuters data.

Dow component Alcoa Inc will post results after the market closes on Monday. JPMorgan Chase & Co and Wells Fargo are also set to report results later in the week.

Second-quarter revenue outlooks for S&P 500 companies - with three negative forecasts for every one that's positive - are among the most negative of the economic recovery, according to Thomson Reuters data.

"We think companies will exceed and beat that low bar. So while Bernanke can always change the conversation, we think the news flow next week should be decent," S&P's Young said.

Help Educate Your Children At Home With This Advice | Exciting ...

The most common reason people choose to homeschool their children is deficiencies in the local public schools. But, homeschooling is complex endeavor requiring a good deal of study. Read on for all the information you?ll need for homeschooling success.

Check your state law prior to scheduling a homeschooling curriculum. There are varied rules and regulations in different areas, and you have to follow them to create a successful school. Some states have a required curriculum, in others you can create your own. You should try to teach things that are close to what public schools are teaching.

TIP! Plan field trips and activities with other homeschooling families near you. It is great fun and will allow your kids the opportunity to make friends with other homeschooled kids.

Make sure your child is constantly learning. No single curriculum can teach your child more than what he can learn every day. Be attentive to their use of language and guide them to use grammar properly. Allow them to help with dinner and learn how to measure and convert measurements. The individualized attention will really help them to excel.

Older children should have one on one time set aside. Keep an area filled with toys and crafts for them. Have older kids teach younger children. This is a great learning tool, and helps instill confidence in the older children.

TIP! While you might not want to allow your children to join public school, they still need social interaction. Plan out play dates with your neighbors or other family members.

Make use of art in your lessons. This includes using art as an auxiliary learning tool in non-art lessons. Ask the kids to draw the topics they are studying, or make crafts related to their most current educational units. They can be creative with sculpture, acting or singing, they are limited only by their imagination. This will help them immerse into a topic and develop an interest into what you are teaching them while developing their creativity and their motor skills.

Have the children help with housework or hire a maid. It can often be impossible for you to be responsible for all aspects of your child?s education. Between homeschooling and regular household duties such as shopping, cooking, and cleaning, you can find yourself wiped out. Accept additional help from anyone and everyone who is willing to provide such help and refrain from feeling guilty about accepting such help.

TIP! Resourcefulness and creativity are admirable traits that can help a great deal throughout the homeschooling experience. It is easy to create your own versions of materials that would otherwise be quite expensive.

Children need hands on learning during homeschooling time. If you are teaching your kids about other countries or states, help them make recipes from some of those countries or states. Learning about Hispanic countries could include making tortillas and tacos and creating a pinata. If World War II is your topic, pick foods from each county as you learn about them. Engaging children on all sensory levels makes it easier for them to learn and retain new information more effectively.

Check your state laws to see what rules there are about home schooling in your area. You can browse the HSLDA website for the information on your local laws. A homeschooling organization can help prepare you for a conversation with your local Board of Education. Yes, you may need to pay membership fees, but you will have access to information that will help you homeschool correctly.

TIP! Rather than jumping into homeschooling on a whim, attend some workshops or conferences first, for your child?s sake. Teaching is an overwhelming endeavor! Seminars and classes offer hands-on guidance and inspiration for nearly every aspect of the homeschooling experience.

Make contact with others that homeschool their children. There are many different factors that motivate parents to choose homeschooling. You have a very good chance that you?ll find a great group of like-minded people that have similar philosophies and goals. Homeschooling groups can give you a lot of support and information, which can be helpful when you first start.

Homeschooling gives kids a chance to take advantages of opportunities not found in packed, ailing public schools. This means that your homeschool offers better opportunities, but you should still have your kids engage in standardized testing. This can help you see if your child is on level with children in local schools or if they need help to catch up.

TIP! Your workspace should be quiet, free of any distractions. Keep it separate from the normal play zone.

Select socialization opportunities for your child carefully. They need to spend time with more people than just their family. Take a field trip with other homeschooling families. Make sure that your child is participating in community sports. Your child can also socialize in Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts.

Avoid becoming isolated during the homeschooling process. Find local networks of other home schooling families. Build a network by investigating local groups and meet with other parents. You an also join online forums. A well-rounded network can give you a broad range of perspectives and a wealth of experience to draw upon.

TIP! Being prepared for what life has in store for your child is just as crucial as their academic lesson plan. Structure your curriculum to include learning important life skills with academic material.

Write down your reasons for wanting to homeschool. While you understand why you chose homeschooling, others may not. Know what you need to get done so that you can answer other people?s questions about why your kids aren?t in public school. This will simplify your life.

Homeschooling can be a good option if your child has difficulty in a public learning environment. This will also reduce the amount of stress and anxiety your child is faced with. You will also have more opportunities for bonding. This helps your child enjoy life again.

TIP! Many parents who want to home school worry about what it may mean for their child?s opportunities to socialize. Think outside the box since they are not meeting new friends through a traditional school environment.

Keep craft supplies where your children can easily get to them. Make sure you have these supplies available all the time. While you teach one child, another one can independently work on arts and crafts. This also encourages creativity and will allow the child to express themselves through their work. This will help him learn, as well.

If you plan on homeschooling your high school student, then be aware that they will need to pass a GED exam or a standardized test such as SATs to be able to go on to college. To find out what they need to work on, get them to take a practice GED test before beginning each subject. That way, you will know where to devote the most resources.

TIP! Use technology in your lessons, but be certain to use other methods too. If you are using a dial-up modem, a home school curriculum that relies solely on online access is especially vulnerable to delay and frustration.

You should now realize that homeschooling is within your reach. Use the suggestions in this article, and you will be able to do a great job of homeschooling your kids. You will also be happy knowing your children will be taught well.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) Robbie Keane converted two penalty kicks in the closing minutes, rallying the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew on Thursday night.

Keane beat Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum to the lower right corner in the 85th minute and again in the second minute of stoppage to give the Galaxy (8-7-3) just their third win in their last eight matches.

The Galaxy outshot Columbus 23-8, but were struggling to take advantage of chances.

"We fought hard to try to win the game and were fortunate to capitalize on two penalty kicks," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "On the night, we played OK, but we can certainly be accused of not finishing our chances and putting ourselves in poor position, which certainly happened. We just had to battle and try to create some chances at the end, and we were fortunate to get a couple calls out of it that made a difference."

Bernardo Anor put the Crew (5-8-5) on the scoreboard in the 78th-minute, heading Federico Higuain's free kick from near midfield and looping the ball from the top of the box into the upper-right corner.

Referee Sorin Stoica called Gruenebaum for tripping Jose Villarreal in the box for the first penalty, and Anor was whistled for knocking down Keane as he awaited a cross for the second. The Crew disagreed with both calls.

"Unfortunately for us, the referee called it," Columbus coach Robert Warzycha said. "From my point of view, it's difficult to judge. What I can tell you is (Gruenebaum) said he didn't initiate contact, then on the second penalty (Anor) said he was just going for the ball. The referee called both of them, and that's the game, unfortunately."

Dominic Oduro nearly scored for Columbus in the 88th minute, but Todd Dunivant cleared it off the goal line, and Keane struck the crossbar for the Galaxy moments later.
